These books are written by Cloud Computing experts and trusted by thousands of people who want to learn Cloud Computing and public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, and Microsoft Azure. You can read one or more of these book to get started with Cloud Computing and benefits it offer in terms of cost saving, scalability, and high-avaibility.

If you don't know, Cloud computing is the field of using a network of remote servers which are powerful computers that work twenty-four hours in a data center somewhere in the world, and you can host your website, data, files on that computer, and use it remotely.
The benefits of using cloud computing have made many businesses use this technology for hosting their web application as well as it's cost-effective instead of hosting their services in the localhost servers and spending much money managing them.

There are other benefits of using cloud computing like its high speed in transforming data, the ability to restore and back up your data and files helps employees in different locations to collaborate together, and many other benefits. Some of the best cloud computing are Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure.

If you are trying to get started in the field of cloud computing then I’ve listed here in this article five of the best cloud computing books and they are for beginners as well as experts.

1. Explain the Cloud Like I’m 10

As the title said you will learn cloud computing as a beginner starting from scratch. This book is really a helpful resource to start your career in cloud computing with a lot of pictures and examples to learn as you are 10 years old and it costs $9.99 as a kindle book on amazon.

You will cover tons of interesting topics starting first with a definition of the cloud and how it got this name and what means when some say as a service like software as a service and if does the weather really affect cloud computing as most people think.

You will also see Amazon AWS and why it becomes so popular among the other cloud computing providers and how to use its services like EC2, S3, CDN, and more.

If you need an online course to go along with this book for better learning (combining active learning form courses and passive learning from book then you can also join the Introduction to Cloud Computing on Amazon AWS for Beginners from Udemy.

It's a great course to start with Cloud computing in 2024. It focuses on AWS but that doesn't matter because general Cloud concepts are same for AWS, Azure, and GCP.

2. Cloud Computing For Dummies

Another interesting book to learn the basics of cloud computing for beginners is this book called cloud computing for dummies for the authors Judith S. Hurwitz and Daniel Kirsch who wrote this second edition and make it $21 as a kindle book on amazon.

You will learn about what cloud computing is and the security concerns like weaknesses and risks of using this technology.

You will also understand the cloud models such as software as a service and the other models Iaas and Paas as well as managing in a multi-cloud world, developing your cloud strategy such as integrating data in the cloud, promoting cloud security, and more.

You can also combine this book with the classic Cloud Computing Concepts on Courserathis course was recommended to me on my previous company and this was the first course I took to learn about Cloud concepts and I must say, it was one of the best investment I made.

If you want to do Microservices development then also this course is a great to start with as both Microservices and cloud computing goes hand-in-hand.

3. Cloud Computing: Concepts, Technology & Architecture

If you search on amazon for cloud computing you will get this book on the first results suggestion of amazon which means that this book is one of the top-selling on the platform. This cloud computing book is created by the author Erl Thomas and costs $229.26 as a kindle book.

After you complete reading the book you will have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of this industry known as cloud computing as well as its architecture and models, understand the business and economic factors that make the world-leading companies use this technology to host their services and websites and more.

For better learning, you can also join an interactive course like Cloud Computing 101: Master the Fundamentals on which allows you to practice on cloud labs as you learn. I was not sure about that but ever since I started doing that, my learning become really fast.

Whether its AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or Docker, and Kubernetes, learning by doing exercise on Cloud labs is probably the best way to learn, hence I strongly recommend you to join this course along with reading book for better and quicker learning.

4. Infrastructure as Code

Kief Morris has been in the industry of cloud computing for more than twenty years managing and deploying IT infrastructure services and he has created a book called Infrastructure as a code teaching you the skills needed to land a job as a system administrator or an infrastructure engineer.

The nice I like about this book is that the author has made it practical as well not only theoretically like most of the online books and you will learn about the tools that configure the cloud infrastructure as well as writing code to automate tasks, explore services for managing the infrastructure, and much more.

When it comes to Infrastructure as Code, you will often hear about Terraform, one of the most popular tool to implement Infrastructure as Code. If you want to learn more about Terraform, I recommend going through Learn DevOps: Infrastructure Automation With Terraform course on Udemy.

While I have taken ore than 5 to 10 courses on Terraform, this one I found most suitable for beginners as well as intermediate developers.

5. AWS: The Complete Beginner’s Guide

As I’ve mentioned earlier that one of the best cloud service providers is known as Amazon AWS (Amazon Web Services) and most of the companies nowadays are using this service. This book will give you the foundation the Amazon AWS and how to use its different services and infrastructure.

In this practical guide, you will learn what is cloud computing and why most businesses are choosing AWS instead of the other cloud providers.

Then you will see how you can store your data and files on the Amazon S3 as well as how to use the cloud resources of hardware and software to deploy your web application using the Amazon EC2, securing your data, and more.

And, if you want to learn AWS in depth, I mean in serious depth like an expert, then I also suggest you to join the AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate by Stephane Maarek on Udemy.

While preparing for this certification is great way to enhance your cloud skills, even if you don't prepare for this certification, you should at least go through the course, you will learn AWS much better.

That's all about the best Cloud Computing books for beginners to learn from scratch in 2024. The above books that I have listed with you are created by authors who have been in the industry for years and they have shared what you will need to know if you are trying to involve in this industry and they will definitely help you learn the skills needed to start your journey in the field of cloud computing.

  1. I think instead of reading books, its better to check official documentation as they are the most up-to-date resource to learn about any cloud platform like AWS. Though, books are generally written better than docs so if you are absolutely have no idea about clouds, books may be a better option.
